What are the differences between a Psychologist and a Psychotherapist…

According to the Italian law, the Psychologist is a professional with a degree in one of the many disciplines of psychology, qualified to exercise the profession of psychologist only if enrolled in the Order of Psychologists, after one year of post-graduation internship and passing the State Examination.

The psychologist duties ‘includes the use of cognitive tools and intervention for prevention, diagnosis, activities of enabling-rehabilitation and psychological support for the person, group, social organizations and communities. It also includes the activities of experimentation, research and teaching in this field’ (Law No. 56/89 Regulation of the  Profession of Psychologist).
The psychologist intervenes using methodologies and psychological techniques consistent with the context of the request (i.e., clinical, educational, legal or work), to offer a service targeted to the needs of the client.
